Texas A&M Engineering is committed to making information and resources accessible to everyone.
Secondary and primary accounts must always follow the following rules:
- All images must have alt text entered so people with visual disabilities understand what the image is depicting
- Facebook must be entered after posting by clicking on the photo, clicking on “options,” then “change alt text.”
- Instagram must be entered via the mobile app after posting by clicking on the edit button, then “edit alt text” in the bottom corner of the image.
- Twitter must be entered while creating the post. Make sure the “compose image description” setting is enabled to allow for alt text to be entered.
- LinkedIn must be entered while creating the post. A field will populate when the image is selected.
- All videos must be close-captioned.
Texas Education Code 51.5325
In adherence to Texas Education Code 51.5325, all personnel granted access to social media platforms managed by Engineering Communications undergo training to ensure alignment with established policies. Moreover, a centralized scheduling system is employed to enhance monitoring capabilities. Regular quarterly audits are conducted by the social media team lead to verify the compliance of content across all channels with the aforementioned code.
Social Media Incidents
When a situation arises in which something is posted that does not align with the Texas A&M Engineering, Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, Texas A&M University or Texas A&M System guidelines, follow the steps below. Examples include racial, derogatory or offensive comments and posts of any kind on primary or secondary accounts. Do not remove/delete any content before consulting with social media lead.
Content posted by contributors
- Note content and take a screenshot or video of content.
- Notify social media team lead (Lorian Dusek).
- An incident report will be created by the team lead and submitted to the appropriate channels (Texas A&M System and Texas A&M Engineering executive leadership).
Content posted by visitors
- Note content and take a screenshot or video of content.
- Notify social media team lead (Lorian Dusek).
- Social media team lead will determine the next course of action.
Other Resources
Public Information and Record Retention
Social media sites may contain communications sent to, or received by, state employees, and such communications are therefore public records subject to State Records Retention requirements. These retention requirements apply regardless of the form of the record (digital text, photos, audio or video).
To the extent that the third-party records retention policies are inconsistent with the Texas State Record Retention schedule, Texas A&M Engineering Communications will put forth reasonable efforts to archive copies of all social media content, including content that was removed, in order to meet state records retention obligations.
Student Organizations or accounts that will be student-run
If you are a student interested in starting an account for your organization, please refer to these guidelines:
- Such accounts will be maintained and governed by requesting organization and not operate under the responsibility of Engineering Communications
- Account description must include phrase that states it is a student-run account
- Account name must not begin with “TAMU” unless authorized Engineering Communications
- Account description must not claim to be an “official Texas A&M Engineering” account
- May not use any official logo from the College of Engineering

- Profile description: Your home away from home starts right here! Created by students who have traveled abroad, we are here to serve our fellow engineering students at Texas A&M!
